Session #1 – The Core Story of Child Develolpment with Evelyn Wotherspoon

Through video and discussion participants learned the core story of development – what it is, how it happens and how development is derailed by adverse early experiences. Child development is the baby’s job and their job is about more than just acquiring cognitive, language and gross motor skills. Babies must also quickly learn how to engage in close emotional ties, and they must learn how to manage their feelings and behavior. When infants are neglected, abused or frightened and when they cannot count on a caring adult to soothe them, all aspects of development will be affected. Participants learned about complex developmental concepts as well as a few practical tools for everyday life with young children.
