Supporting family & community mental health during disaster recovery

mental health during disaster recovery

With multiple wildfires burning throughout Alberta and across Canada, we at PolicyWise for Children & Families empathize with the communities negatively impacted by the ongoing wildfire situation. We hope all those directly affected are safe and being provided the support they require in their time of need.

Given the urgency of the current wildfire situation, we are sharing some of our most recent and relevant work to support mental health during disaster recovery. We believe these resources will be particularly valuable to the communities and organizations facing challenges today, aiding in their recovery and well-being into the future. These resources are based on insights from the 2023 wildfire season, the COVID-19 pandemic, the 2016 wildfires in Fort McMurray, and the 2013 floods in southern Alberta.

We have over a decade of experience collaborating with community non-profits, government, and other organizations to support their response and recovery efforts, particularly those related to mental health and psychosocial well-being.

For Albertans in need of assistance, the Government of Alberta’s wildfire-related information hotline is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Please call 310-4455.  You can also find the latest information on the Government of Alberta’s website.
