At PolicyWise, we recently completed a report on Opportunity Youth employment in Alberta.
We found that the pandemic combined with the economic downturn has worsened employment opportunities for many young people. Opportunity Youth are among the people most impacted by these circumstances. These include young people not in work, training, or education due to structural and social barriers. Among others, these barriers include involvement in the justice or child intervention systems, disability, and mental health concerns.
We identified opportunities for action for policymakers, employers, and the social-serving sector. Our Calls to Action outlines these in detail.
