PolicyWise for Children & Families’ Alberta Nonprofit Data Strategy team invites you to enhance your ability to gather, use, and share statistics and data by enrolling in Statistics Canada’s free online training.
Between May 16 and June 3, Statistics Canada is offering these three webinars to improve your data skills:
Statistics Canada shared the registration information with the Alberta Nonprofit Data Strategy team to ensure Alberta non-profits could sign up before the general public.
Space is limited to 30 people per session.
Fully booked sessions will have waiting lists available. If a session is in high demand, Statistics Canada may rerun the session at a later date.
About the Alberta Nonprofit Data Strategy
The Alberta Nonprofit Data Strategy is a sector-wide collaborative initiative led by PolicyWise for Children & Families. It aims to build a knowledge-driven non-profit sector by providing access to timely, relevant information supporting evidence-based decision-making. This initiative also engages with the non-profit sector to produce sector-related analyses, build sector capacity, and share supportive data reports.
May 16: Getting to know your community by 2021 Census of population data
There is a myriad of different ways to use Census data.
Municipalities use demographic and household composition data from the Census to plan various services, such as daycare centres, schools, police and fire protection services.
Business owners use census information on geography and median income to determine how much potential customers in an area can spend on a good or service.
Join this session to see a portrait of your community painted with data from the 2021 Census of population.

May 21: Summarizing data is easy, really
This presentation is a crash course on basic descriptive statistics used in data processing. It will provide suggestions on summarizing the most relevant results for basic data analysis.
Using examples, attendees will learn how to calculate and interpret statistical measures such as percentages, ratios, averages, and frequencies.
