The legal landscape for gender-diverse youth in Alberta has been changing. Shifting laws and regulations have made it a challenge for these youth, their families, and supporters to keep up.
PolicyWise is happy to announce the start of our new project to help these youth understand, navigate, and respond to this shifting legal environment. Working with the Queer & Trans Health Collective, Advocacy in Action will develop resources and learning opportunities for gender-diverse youth.
We are also grounding this project by engaging Two-Spirit, trans, non-binary, and other gender-diverse youth. We want these youth to provide guidance, share their lived experiences, and meaningfully collaborate on this project.
Youth Advisory Group
With this in mind, the project team has started recruiting for the project’s Youth Advisory Group. This group will ensure this project reflects the real priorities, needs, and experiences of gender-diverse youth.
To be eligible to join, youth must:
- Be 14-24 years old
- Identify as Two-Spirit, trans, non-binary, or gender-diverse
- Living in Alberta
If asked to join, Advisory Group members will:
- Share experiences and ideas
- Tell us what legal issues matter most to youth
- Help create youth-friendly materials
- Help plan legal workshops and a Youth Legal Forum
- Meet online every 2-3 months
By joining our Youth Advisory Group, gender-diverse youth will:
- Make a real impact for youth across Alberta
- Build leadership and advocacy skills
- Add volunteer experience to their resume
- Receive a $50 honorarium per meeting, up to $300
- Connect with other Two-Spirit, trans, non-binary, and gender-diverse youth who care about change
