Data Linking Research into Health Care Utilization Before and After Entry into Foster Care

The Alberta Centre for Child, Family and Community Research organized a presentation from Dr. Anita Kozyrskvi focusing on her research into health care utilization patterns of children in Manitoba before and after they enter foster care. Dr. Kozyrskvi is a researcher in the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Alberta. Dr. Kozyrskvi’s research involved Manitoba’s population data linking facilities, which are similar to what we have established in Alberta with the Child and Youth Data Laboratory (CYDL). This is a specific example of how data linking can be used to forward a policy agenda for children and youth. It may also start a longer term dialogue with our partnering ministries about the kinds of future research projects that we want the CYDL to focus on.
