Early Childhood Development

The following highlights recent or ongoing work

Filming Interactions to Nurture Development

PolicyWise conducted an implementation evaluation of Filming Interactions to Nurture Development (FIND). FIND is a video coaching program that aims to strengthen positive interactions between caregivers and children.

Three settings were used to evaluate implementation, in both Edmonton and Calgary:

  • Families receiving support through home visitation
  • Child care services
  • Early Childhood Development services.

The implementation evaluation report outlines a number of factors and an associated cost framework that would influence scaling up FIND should it be considered for implementation in Alberta. The considerations for discussion include supporting staff, editing, outcomes, tracking systems, program support, caseloads, eligibility, information technology, agency readiness, and coaches’ role definition.

Library Services influence on early childhood development

The purpose of this project was to understand and describe potential outcomes and impact for public library services in Alberta to influence early childhood development. We developed a framework to support achievement of strategic clarity, desired outcomes and impact for public library services in Alberta. The project was completed in March 2018.
